Public speaking and singing are closely connected.
Giving a presentation, a speech, or a lecture—in short, public speaking—can be a real challenge for some. A lot may depend on it (landing that new job, getting a promotion, reaching the right audience), but because every emotional state manifests through the voice (the voice is often called the mirror of the soul), and since speaking clearly and engagingly does not come naturally to everyone, it can be very useful to dedicate some serious attention to this through one or more presentation lessons.
Public speaking and singing are closely connected. Both require greater clarity in diction, control over breath, variation in pitch, expression, and the ability to convey both content and emotion to an audience—more than we typically do in everyday speech. And it takes courage! That’s why I often start my presentation lessons with some fun karaoke singing.
Sing a song that allows you to fully express yourself, both emotionally and physically, and carry that same mindset into delivering your speech or presentation. I am always amazed at how much of a positive impact this can have. And once you've dared to sing, speaking no longer feels as intimidating, and you’re less likely to feel the need to exaggerate your delivery.
Of course, I always take each individual’s specific needs into account when working on their presentation skills, offering tailored tips and exercises to help them improve.
